Blue Ridge Pediatrics recommends your child have an annual exam or sports physical during their birth month. If not, it is best to have it at least 6 to 8 weeks before the sports season begins. It is recommended that all children receive routine physical exams and sports physicals from their pediatrician’s office. This helps keep medical records and health history up to date and ensures your child is caught up on immunizations. It also gives your child the chance to discuss concerns in a confidential setting. We do not recommend participation in mass screenings done at school or a pharmacy clinic where the medical record and immunizations may not be available for the best care. Also, if something abnormal is found, your child likely will have to visit our office and it may delay sports participation. Our office has the required sports physical form which must be filled out to participate.
